Brandi: Self-Love Movement

Alyx is a Bentonville boudoir photographer who believes that every body is beautiful and worthy of love. She started the Sheer Boudoir Self-Love Movement to help normalize normal bodies and to encourage women all over the Northwest Arkansas area to share their stories and journeys to self-love and acceptance. The stories shared are unique to each individual and are each woman’s own words.

Brandi is a 38-year-old mama of two sweet kiddos. She wanted to participate in the self-love movement to show her daughter that you don’t have to meet society’s standards of perfection – you can just be yourself.

Self-love is loving who you are – your mindset, your body – everything about yourself in the hardest and the easiest times. There will be days where you’re going to skim through a magazine or look online and you’re going to compare yourself to what you’re seeing out there and think, ‘Well I don’t look like that’… but then you have to think, ‘No, I’m not going to look like that person and that’s okay.’ Love yourself even when you have your doubts.

“In my teenage years, I was pretty hard on my body. I started smoking when I was in 7th grade, I drank a lot and that was hard on my body. I mean, I loved my body – I thought I looked really good, but let’s be honest – I barely even ate. I lived on coffee, cigarettes, and alcohol. Going into my later 20s, I stopped smoking, cut down on the drinking and basically traded those for exercise and I started to love my body even more and loved all of me.”

“Going into my 30s it started to get a little bit harder, but then when I got pregnant at 35… I LOVED being pregnant. I felt super sexy. After my second kid, my body didn’t bounce back as much, but I feel like today at almost 39 years old, I just feel so comfortable in what this body is.”

Love yourself for who you are and what you are. Try to take care of your body because it makes you feel good. Just try to be yourself – don’t let stress or anxiety hold you back from loving yourself. Don’t feel like you have to impress anyone.”
