Casey: Self-Love Movement

Alyx is a Bentonville boudoir photographer who believes that every body is beautiful and worthy of love. She started the Sheer Boudoir Self-Love Movement to help normalize normal bodies and to encourage women all over the Northwest Arkansas area to share their stories and journeys to self-love and acceptance. The stories shared are unique to each individual and are each woman’s own words.

Casey is a 36-year-old nurse and mother of two kids. She wanted to be a part of the Sheer Boudoir Self Love Movement because she wanted to show that you can be confident in your body no matter the size!
“I had a miscarriage between [my two kids]. I had previously lost about 100 lbs after the birth of my daughter and then I gained weight and really struggled with weight after I had my miscarriage. After my son I had gastric bypass to help because [the doctors] told me that I would be diabetic and I wanted to do as much as I could. I lost about 90 lbs from there and even though I’m not quite where I wanted to be, I am happy with where I’m at. I’m happy with myself.”
“I really don’t know where I’m at in my own [self-love] journey. Before I decided to have bariatric surgery, I weighed the most I had ever weighed and I went on a mission trip to Haiti. While I was there, I realized that I needed to be healthier to be able to do things like that. I’m a nurse – I like helping people, and if I’m not healthy, I can’t.”
“I just want to be able to show my daughter that no matter what your body is like, you love yourself. Self-love means loving yourself no matter where you’re at. Yes, you might want to be thinner or healthier, but that doesn’t mean you don’t love the body that you have now. When I was a kid, it was never about loving yourself… and I don’t want my daughter to have to go through that. You’re worth [loving]. No matter what somebody else tells you, [self-love] has to come from within.”
