Ciara: Self-Love Movement
Alyx is a Bentonville boudoir photographer who believes that every body is beautiful and worthy of love. She started the Sheer Boudoir Self-Love Movement to help normalize normal bodies and to encourage women all over the Northwest Arkansas area to share their stories and journeys to self-love and acceptance. The stories shared are unique to each individual and are each woman’s own words.
Self-love… there’s so many ways I could go with that, but the actual phrase self-love is just care – it’s when you care for yourself every day. Giving yourself that time and giving yourself that energy to make sure that you do good for you.
My self-love journey has taken me far. When I was younger, I was known for having a big butt and juicy curves and it’s frustrating because it’s all I was known for. I got to the point where that’s what I needed to look like to be pretty. I’ve [now] gotten to a point where… I can show what I want, wear what I want, and do what I want whenever I want. It’s the most uplifted I’ve felt in a long time.
It’s just different knowing that you can be in love with yourself and not give a shit about what everybody thinks about you. You just do you every fucking day. Get up and do you. If you’re crying, do you. If you’re laughing, do you. If you’re pissed, do you. You just make sure that you get up and do you every single day.
Make sure that you’re not listening to other people who are always telling you that it’s not okay. Trust your gut. It’s hard to tell other women to work on themselves because women are always the worst critics of themselves. Stop being your own worst critic. Stop doing doing that to feel better – let’s just be better.
