Desirae: Self-Love Movement

Alyx is a Northwest Arkansas boudoir photographer who believes that every body is beautiful and worthy of love. She started the Sheer Boudoir Self-Love Movement to help normalize normal bodies and to encourage women all over the Northwest Arkansas area to share their stories and journeys to self-love and acceptance. The stories shared are unique to each individual and are each woman’s own words.

Desirae is a mom to two sweet kiddos – an eight-year-old and a two-year-old. She wanted to be a part of this movement because she believes that we should all lift each other up.

“I didn’t know what love was for a long time because I was adopted when I was a little bit older. I was six years old. Things had happened to me. But being a mom has me learning as I go. It took me a long time to realize what love was – what self-love was. For so long people made me feel like I wasn’t up to their standards. Then I realized – I don’t even care and that’s okay, because as long as I feel good about myself, that’s all that matters.“

“Self-love is being able to love yourself without worrying just about looks. It’s about having confidence and knowing that you can accomplish anything you want to do. Self-love is a journey because it doesn’t just come naturally. Honestly, I’m 28 years old and in the last year I’ve started to actually understand what self-love is and love my own self.

“I think I’m getting to, you know, the peak of [my self-love journey] – I’m learning that some people take more time to figure out that they’re worthy, that they’re enough, and that loving yourself is not just about the way you look on the outside… it’s about your soul.“
